Directions  from Avignon Gare TGV to Vaison-la-Romaine

The trip from the station to Vaison is about 60 kilometers and takes about one hour. Directions are detailed for the first 9-10 kilometers.

TA= Turn About, Turn Around, Traffic Circle

km 0 – Directions start at the black metal gates with concrete pillars, just outside the car rental area of Avignon TGV station

At the start, do not turn left toward “CENTRE VILLE”; follow AUTRES DIRECTIONS (see sign below.)

-- look for the sign below, located  100 meters before the next right turn; again, do not go to CENTRE VILLE or CENTRE COMMERCIAL unless you want to go shopping immediately!

-- km 0.25 – Immediately before the underpass below the ROCADE SUD (sort of a beltway around Avignon Centre), turn right, following sign LA ROCADE SUD, or AUTRES DIRECTIONS  (see signs below.) You are going to follow the ROCADE SUD for a while.

______________________________________________________________________

-- km 6.1 – Continue straight; do not take N100 exit to ISLE SUR LA SORGUE as indicated below

______________________________________________________________________

-- km 9.3 -- Follow the N7 red sign, direction ORANGE if you do not want to take the A7 autoroute (toll road). If you take the N7 north direction ORANGE (green sign), proceed straight past Sorgues, Bedarrides and Courthezon; a few km past Courthezon, you will see your first sign (right turn) direction Vaison-la-Romaine (D950)

If you make a mistake and do not take this Orange exit, no problem. Just follow the blue signs for the A7 Autoroute and follow the next set of directions.

• if you prefer to take the Autoroute A7 North, follow the sign (in blue) for ORANGE/VALENCE/LYON; enter at the toll ticket area of entrance AVIGNON NORD and proceed north on A7, getting off at the first exit (exit #22 -Orange Sud) just south of the city of ORANGE.

• At the exit of the A7 autoroute, there is a TA; follow the signs to Vaison and proceed south on N7 for about 1.8 km till you see another TA; go around until you see the exit for Vaison-la-Romaine. Turn onto the D950-marked to VAISON, and follow the directions below. It is then about ½ hour to Vaison.

NOTE: Sometime in 2008 part of the N7 was named the D907. The road changes numbers but it is not clear exactly where this happens. It doesn't matter--follow N7 or 907.

If you are following the N7 OR D907 north (and not the autoroute), you will pass by Sorgues, Bedarrides, and Courthezon. Then you will come upon a TA; take the first exit onto D950. A sign at the exit indicates "Vaison-la-Romaine," but it comes up fast. This is not a big road-- "D" means "departmental."

You go about 4.5 km on D950. Then at the roundabout, you take the third exit to Vaison--D977. Avoid going to Carpentras. You then go about 22 more km. Don't worry too much about road numbers; sometimes you may not see them. However VAISON is well marked.

As you approach Vaison, there is one spot close to Roaix (I think) where there are 2 roads to Vaison; one a truck route and the other a "tourist" route. Take the one on the right (although both get you to town.)

You will come into Vaison on the D977 / Avenue Ulysse Fabre. At the roundabout take the 4th exit which goes across the bridge (Pont Neuf.) When you cross the bridge turn right and go up Avenue Jules Ferry. At the top of the hill you turn right onto the "Grande Rue" (which is really not a "big" street,) and then a quick left onto the Rue de la Republique. This is the main street in town (remember this is a village so the streets are not large.) After about 2 blocks, Rue de la Republique turns into Avenue Victor Hugo--your street! You drive about 2 more blocks to find the apt. If the gate is open, drive in and park. More specific instructions are included in the apartment manual.
