Visits to Surrounding Towns and Villages

Nearby Orange (1/2 hour) has a Roman ampitheater with a summer entertainment program.

Avignon, a medieval walled city, is 50 km to the south, about 30-40 minutes. Visit the 14th century Palais des Papes, and the Pont d'Avignon of the famous nursery rhyme. There is wonderful shopping and great restaurants, and a theater festival during the month of July.

The Luberon villages of Gordes, Bonnieux, Ménerbes, Apt, Rousillon, Lacoste-made world famous by Peter Mayle in "A Year in Provence"-- are a little over an hour away.

L'Isle sur la Sorgue is a lovely town with the Sorgue river winding throughout; its world famous antique market is open Saturday through Monday.
